About Happy Wheels
Happy Wheels is a side-scrolling ragdoll physics platformer created by Jim Bonacci and developed under his studio Fancy Force. The game launched in its first browser version on June 4, 2010, originally as a Flash game, and quickly became one of the most-played web games of the early 2010s. Each level challenges you to cross the finish line — or complete a specific objective — using a selected character and their vehicle, while navigating courses filled with spikes, sawblades, mines, cannons, and crushers designed to inflict graphic cartoon dismemberment.
The defining mechanic is the physics simulation: characters are not pixel-perfect game objects — they are jointed ragdolls. Hit an obstacle wrong and limbs detach, bodies crumple, and momentum carries severed parts across the screen. The game leans fully into this violence as dark comedy. What makes it more than a gore showcase is the ejection system: pressing Z ejects your character from the vehicle at any time, and you can then control the ragdoll body independently — crawling toward the finish line after losing both legs is a legitimate strategy and a signature Happy Wheels experience.
There are 16 character types in total. Wheelchair Guy rides a motorized wheelchair with a jetpack that can boost forward, reverse, fly, and adjust angle using Shift and Ctrl. Irresponsible Dad pedals a BMX with his child as a passenger — Ctrl ejects the son, Shift ejects the Dad, and Z ejects both simultaneously. Segway Guy has a spring-loaded Segway that can jump but cannot rotate its pole. Lawnmower Man, Effective Shopper, Santa Claus, and Helicopter Man are larger characters with their own unique physics properties and special abilities. Each character has different weight, speed, handling, and special-function keys, making character selection a meaningful gameplay choice.
The user-generated level system is what sustained the game's popularity for over a decade. A built-in level editor allows players to design and publish levels to a shared server, and the community has produced hundreds of thousands of courses ranging from precision platformers to absurdist art installations. When you start Happy Wheels, you can filter and browse community levels by rating, difficulty, and character type, meaning no two sessions need to be the same.

- 16 playable characters (Wheelchair Guy, Irresponsible Dad, Segway Guy, Moped Couple, Explorer Guy, Lawnmower Man, Santa Claus, Helicopter Man, and more) each with unique vehicles and special abilities

How to Play
- 1Select a character from the character screen. Each character handles differently — Irresponsible Dad's BMX is beginner-friendly; Wheelchair Guy's jetpack is more complex but highly versatile.
- 2Choose a level from the Featured or User levels browser. Featured levels are staff-picked; User levels let you filter by character, difficulty, and rating.
- 3Use Arrow Keys (or WASD) to move forward and lean your vehicle. Each character has different stability — heavier characters tip easily on steep inclines.
- 4Use your character's special key (Shift or Ctrl) to trigger their unique ability. Wheelchair Guy activates the jetpack booster; Irresponsible Dad ejects the child.
- 5If you lose control or your vehicle is destroyed, press Z to eject and control the ragdoll toward the finish. Crawling across the line with no legs still counts as a win.
- 6Reach the finish line or complete the level's stated objective. Some levels require collecting tokens or surviving for a set time rather than crossing a line.
Tips & Tricks
- Lean forward (Down Arrow / S) slightly on steep downhill sections to prevent your vehicle from flipping. Over-leaning backward is the most common cause of early crashes.
- Mastering Wheelchair Guy's jetpack angle is a high-skill technique: use Ctrl to tilt the booster direction, which lets you brake mid-air or hover over specific obstacles rather than flying straight.
- When ejected as a ragdoll, you can still make progress by using Arrow Keys to crawl. Reaching the finish line on hands (or stumps) is a valid completion — many levels are designed around this.
- For Irresponsible Dad, the child passenger can be ejected to land on switches or pressure plates that Dad cannot reach on the bike. Some community levels are built specifically around this mechanic.
- In user levels rated 4+ stars, difficulty is generally honest. Avoid 1–2 star user levels unless you want chaos — many are designed purely to kill you in unexpected ways.

FAQ
Happy Wheels was created by Jim Bonacci under his studio Fancy Force. The first browser version launched on June 4, 2010 as a Flash game. The game has been maintained and updated since then.
There are 16 playable character types, including Wheelchair Guy, Irresponsible Dad, Segway Guy, Moped Couple, Explorer Guy, Pogostick Man, Irresponsible Mom, Effective Shopper, Lawnmower Man, Santa Claus, and Helicopter Man.
Pressing Z ejects your rider from the vehicle at any point. You then control the ragdoll body directly with Arrow Keys. This is useful when your vehicle is destroyed but you are still close to the finish line — crawling across the line with a dismembered ragdoll still counts as level completion.
Yes. Happy Wheels has a massive community level library generated by its built-in level editor. You can browse and filter levels by character, rating, and difficulty from the level selection screen.
Special keys vary by character. Wheelchair Guy: Shift adjusts booster angle, Ctrl fires booster. Irresponsible Dad: Ctrl ejects the son, Shift ejects the dad, Z ejects both. Segway Guy: Shift makes the Segway jump. Most characters use Z as the universal ejection key.
There is a separate mobile app. The browser version is the original and contains the full user-level library, while the mobile version has a limited set of official levels.
